The rescheduled 40th Annual Kingdom Day Parade went to the streets of Los Angeles on Monday morning. The event was postponed last month due to a fatal Southern California wildfire.

The symbol of civil rights was assassinated on April 4, 1968. On November 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill declaring Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a federal public holiday.
A solid supporter to make this happen was Grammy-winning singer Stevie Wonder.
In 2023, the Motown icon revealed how difficult it was with X and how he had to last.
“40 years ago, the world of electronics – no email, no internet – we found a way to beat the odds and did what Dr. King wanted,” he explained. “We found humanity among those who passionately opposed us. We reached beyond differences and in August 1983, the bill to make Dr. King’s birthday a national holiday was the Democratic Party’s It passed the House of Representatives from 338 to 90. In October 1983, it passed the bill from 78 to 22 years of Republican Senate, and President Ronald Reagan signed the bill in November 1983.”

In 1981, Wonder released the popular song “Happy Birthday” from his album “Hotter than Jury,” honoring King and pushing his birthday to be a national holiday. He even held meetings at the Capitol to promote his cause. “Isn’t she nice?” The singer stopped touring for three years to allow for a parade of national holidays and kingdom days.
“You should know that Stevie Wonder was truly sacrificed for the Kingdom Day event and federal holidays and this parade,” explained Gale Anderson of KTLA 5. “So next time I see or hear Stevie Wonder, I’ll thank him for his service.”
Wonder is the first Grand Marshall of Kingdom Day Parade’s first annual parade, and the event organizers continue to honor his work making this all possible.
The Kingdom Day Parade began Monday morning at the intersection of the West and Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.
