HUD does not say taxpayer-funded FHA mortgages for illegal immigration

The Housing and Urban Development Agency (HUD) has terminated illegal immigrant mortgages to prevent federal mortgages from going to people living in the United States illegally.

HUD Secretary Scott Turner announced the move on Wednesday in news of a joint effort with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to focus on American homeownership.

“Today, HUD fired a Biden taxpayer-supported FHA mortgage for illegal aliens,” Turner wrote to X.

In another post, Turner said that HUD-backed mortgages should “benefit Americans who play with rules and work hard, not those who enter our country illegally.

“Today, HUD acted to protect the American dream of American ownership,” he wrote.

On Monday, Turner and DHS Director Christa Noem signed a memo to end the “wasteful misappropriation” of public housing resources funded by taxpayers to illegal immigrants rather than US citizens.

The initiative will support data sharing between the two agencies via newly established communications lines, officials said. According to a news release, U.S. veterans will benefit from the move.

“For the benefit of American citizens, American taxes should be used for the benefit of American citizens, especially when it comes to issues that are as pressing as our country’s housing crisis,” Turner said Monday. “This new agreement leverages resources, including technology and personnel, to ensure that Americans are their only priority when it comes to public housing.

“We will continue to work closely with DHS to maximize resources and put American citizens first.”

According to HUD, around 9 million people live in subsidized housing across the country. Approximately 59% of non-citizen households, including green cardholders or illegal immigrants, use one or more public assistance programs, cost $42 billion a year to taxpayers.

Upon his office, President Donald Trump called for greater surveillance to stop illegal immigrants from accessing taxpayer-funded resources.

Some states, such as Pennsylvania and Arizona, have passed measures during the Biden administration that aimed to prevent illegal immigrants from acquiring public housing resources from Americans who need them.
