Hundreds of demonstrators, including more than 200 from UCLA, filled the streets of Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon as part of a nationwide “Kill the Cuts” rally.
Organizers have requested it as a national action day to combat the government’s proposed reduction in federal research, health and education.
About 4,000 people RSVP’d in local protests.
Sky5 was overhead as hundreds of education, labor and health activists circled the intersection of Westwood, blocking traffic on Veteran Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard.

The UCLA Police Department warned that drivers of the rally impact on X-Post traffic, notifying them that “UAW 4811 is planning to travel south from Bruin Plaza, a westbound Kinross for veterans to Westwood Plaza, the federal building. Traffic could be affected.
One organizer told KTLA that this March was responding to the Trump administration’s proposed cuts in state and federal funding. “We can drill billions of dollars into UC’s budgets — cuts to halt or end life-saving research, healthcare and education.”
Participants hope that the protest will pressure elected officials to counter Trump’s actions.
“By cutting funding for life-saving research and healthcare, the Trump administration is abandoning its suffering families and sacrificing taxpayers to billions of dollars,” said Rafael Jaime, president of UAW 4811, one of the organizers of the national event. “These reductions are dangerous to our health and dangerous to our economy.”
