Huntington Park passes Sanctuary Ordinance – NBC Los Angeles

At a city council meeting on Monday night, Huntington Park officially passed the Sanctuary City Ordinance.

This new urban law ensures that local law enforcement or resources are not used in compliance with ice or other federal agents.

An unanimous vote from five city council members in Ordinance No. 2025-06 establishes Huntington Park as a fully sanctuary city, where immigration enforcement will not cooperate.

Huntington Park facilities will not be used by ICE unless required by law.

This includes a visit from Land Bureau Director Christie Noem and a tactic that issued word-of-mouth to use explosives to break through the neighborhood’s front door, as the city has been targeted for several ice attacks over the past 30 days.

However, the ordinance is only part of the city’s initiative to protect its residents.

Last week, Huntington Park established the HP With You program, which allocates $150,000 to support families affected by the immigrant raid. The city knows the rights campaign to provide legal assistance, food distribution to immigrants and notify community members.

“For too long, previous leaders have turned their eyes on our most vulnerable residents. Now, we have unknown individuals who are disrupting our neighborhoods and wasting fears throughout our area.

Flores speaks of how previous leadership has failed the city’s large immigrant communities, but current city officials support the city’s values.

“This ordinance is a long-term amendment. It affirms our values, defends our residents, and makes clear that in Huntington Park we are opposed to the intentional targeting and sacrifices of our community,” he added.

As part of Huntington Park’s commitment to the constitutional rights to its residents, Ordinance No. 2025-06 is as follows:

Protect the city by banning cooperation with immigration enforcement efforts that are not backed by judicial warrants or legal authority. Protect sensitive personal information from sharing with federal agencies of all residents, including immigrant status. If federal law requires immigration enforcement, we will remain transparent and report whenever we come into contact with immigration authorities. Establish a personal right to conduct for individuals whose rights may be breached under this ordinance.

Through this ordinance, the city wants to send a message. “We do not allow fear to destroy our neighbours or erode the rights of those who care for us.”
