The husband of the woman, found dead inside a burned house in San Marino, was arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities said.
Firefighters discovered the body of 56-year-old Irene Golei after putting out a residential fire in the 2600 block of Lorraine Road on the morning of Jan. 6, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Office.
There were signs of physical trauma on her upper body, officials said, and LA County Sheriff’s detectives began investigating the death as a murder.
Almost six months later, the arrest was made. Her husband, Yun Rai, 63, was taken into custody in San Gabriel on Thursday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Rye is in custody on a bail warrant, and the Sheriff’s Office is scheduled to present the case to the LA County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.
LA County Medical Examiner determined that Lai’s cause of death had not been determined after autopsy and toxicological studies. Detectives responding to the first case said the woman’s body was burning badly.
A friend told ABC7 News that Gaw-Lai is the mother of twins and a well-received doctor. The neighbor told the news channel that she was in the midst of a controversial divorce.
According to court records, Gaw-Lai filed a petition for divorce from a minor child in August 2024. She had filed an earlier petition in 2003 for divorce from LAI, according to court records.
Go Rey, who also passed through the surname Go Gonzalo, was a licensed endocrinologist, according to the California Medical Board. Several of her patients left sad messages on the Yelp page of her Arcadia practice.
“Amazing endocrinologist! I’m so saddened her loss. The staff were as positive and professional as her. This is really difficult to find in the medical industry,” one patient wrote. “I miss her so much, but I’m still trying to take on a tragic loss to the industry. I knew my health was on a positive path for her.”
Her husband initially told investigators that he took their two sons to baseball practice and then burned their homes back, Sheriff Lt. Col. Stephen de John told ABC7 News on Tuesday.
