Deputy ice director Todd Lyons denounced rhetoric from “elected officials” on Sunday for increasing attacks on immigration officers.

The Lions made comments that aired Sunday in an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” leading to an increase in violence against President Donald Trump’s political opponents.

“I think the rhetoric, especially the rapid increase from many elected officials, if you do, is something embarrassing or opposed to the Ice Law Enforcement mission, really increasing these attacks on officers,” he said.

The Lions noted that assaults against officers increased by 830% compared to 2024.

He added that the violence spikes are also due to the more “visible” of ice officers in communities across the country as Trump’s deportation campaign expands.

“The immigration mission is one of the forefronts of this administration, so there’s a lot of scrutiny and publicity,” Lyon said.

Officials also confirmed that ICE does not restrict arrests to illegal immigrants convicted of another crime. He said many illegal immigrants with no criminal records were employed as “collective arrests” during operations targeting violent immigrants.

Nevertheless, he added that the ice “targets the worst and worst.”

Ice officers themselves spoke of the rise in violence and criticism they faced under the new administration.

“It was very sad to see us getting worse. The name was headed towards us,” General Christian Moreno told Fox News this weekend that “My Views” host Lala Trump.

“I’m just doing this [interview] Now I had to talk to my family about it and say, “Hey, this is what I believe and I think it’s important for us to put the story out there and let the people of America know humans.” We got the work to do. We just enforce the law. We’re not making up for the law, and it’s sad, but we keep pushing it,” he added.

He and his officers Edgard Centeno and Chris Sandoval shared their perspective on daily violent ice officers.

“We have to do our job. We have raised our hands to protect the constitution. We are enforced the law, so we will adjust what is going on in our country, but it makes our hearts sad, especially when we see you serve in the battle and your country is so divided,” Centano said.
