ICE reveals the jurisdiction of the sanctuary that released the most criminal aliens

Over the past few years, sanctuary jurisdictions across the country have rejected the demands of detainees from more than 25,000 agencies, resulting in the release of dozens of illegal immigrants convicted of murder, according to records from the new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

A total of 72 offenders convicted or charged with murder have been released from US prison despite the ICE detainees between October 1, 2022 and February 6, 2025.

17 of these releases came from just three detention centres. The Santa Clara County Jail, which released the Illinois River Correctional Center and six, and the Stateville Correctional Center in Illinois, have released the five.

The data comes as a debate over the jurisdiction of “sanctuary” that limits or bans local cooperation with federal immigration authorities as President Donald Trump doubled his promise to deport the masses.

Trump has hinted at federal lawsuits against jurisdiction in recent weeks, including a true social post on Thursday, in which the president threatened to withhold federal funds.

“There are no more sanctuary cities! They protect criminals, not victims,” Trump wrote in the Post. “They are ashamed of our country and are being oc-laughed all around the world. They are working on papers withholding all federal funds in any city or state where these death traps could exist!!!”

Meanwhile, ICE data provided insights where jurisdictions were least compliant with the agency’s detainee’s requirements. These figures show that over half (52%) of the reduced detainee demands come from California prisons and are considered sanctuary states by the CIS.

Other states where detainees were denied were Illinois, Virginia, Massachusetts and Connecticut. According to the CIS, Illinois, Massachusetts and Connecticut are all sanctuaries, but Virginia does not have a statewide sanctuary policy, but it has dozens of jurisdictions with their own policies.

“It’s shocking that more than half of the detainees have been denied by California prisons and prisons,” Alfonso Aguilar, director of Hispanic engagement at the American Principles Project, told Fox News Digital. “government [Gavin] Newsom and the mayor of the state have explained to their members a lot of things to do. ”

Newsom’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for Fox News digital comment.

Nearly 3,000 offenders have been released in the major Santa Clara County prison between 2022 and 2025, with ice data shown.

Illinois Cook County Jail and Virginia’s Fairfax County Adult Detention Center also handled the majority of the released offenders, both of which saw a decline in more than 1,000 ice detainees over the same period.

“I can’t imagine what’s going on in these jurisdictions,” Aguilar said. “Their leaders clearly do not believe that illegal immigrants who have been charged or convicted of crimes should be removed from the community, and by ignoring ice detainees and releasing them to the community, they are putting the lives and property of their citizens at risk.”
