The driver of the RV who attacked and killed a 9-year-old boy in Koreatown on Thursday night was arrested on suspicion of DUI, police confirmed Friday. Crush also left the boy’s 19-year-old brother in the hospital.
Police say the brothers were on an e-scooter near the intersection of South New Hampshire Avenue and 4th Avenue when the RV turned, when they hit both before 9:30pm
Nadir Gavareta, the youngest brother, was declared dead at the scene. His brother was taken to hospital and listed in stable condition.
The driver, identified as 46-year-old Jimmy Pittman, was seen undergoing a pig rezyser test shortly after the crash. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA that Pittman had been booked on charges of DUI.
Witnesses said the RV was “flying” down the street seconds before the collision.
“I was crossing and he was flying. I was like, ‘I’m going to be late before you kill someone.’ And he was like “you.” …He almost ran me, you said I came out halfway straight away.

It was unclear if Pittman lives from an RV, but a woman living in the area said she was worried about the number of RVs in the area.
“You have to do something with these RVs. So to drive drunks… that’s someone’s kid,” Yvette Rayleigh said.
