After a fire broke out outside a gym in Eagle Rock, a disgruntled business owner says the city of Los Angeles needs to do something to help with the homeless crisis.
Raco Boxing Club & Training Studio owner Yuichi Oi arrived at his business on Eagle Rock Boulevard Sunday morning to find a fire starting just outside his door. .
Ooi, who checked the surveillance cameras, said he noticed a homeless woman wandering around the neighborhood recently.

“She actually moved the mattress onto the tire, loaded it with some more materials, intentionally lit it on fire, and then took off,” Oi said.
Video recorded around 4:40 a.m. showed a person bending over a pile of objects as flames began to flicker. The person then walked down Eagle Rock Boulevard as the fire grew.
“As you know, there are residents behind us. So, not only the store but also the store next door may have been burnt down…The apartment building may have been affected as well,” Oi said. spoke.
He said luckily someone drove by and called 911 to report the fire, but the homelessness crisis has led to repeated vandalism.
“If they’re middle class, have a job, make money, the police are in front of them. They arrest them, they prosecute them, but if they’re homeless they don’t do anything. They don’t give us…and it’s really difficult for businesses to try to survive,” Oi said.
Ooi also said that the police did not intend to pursue the case because there was not enough damage, and instead it was referred to the fire department. He believes the city needs to do more to protect local business owners.
