Illegal marijuana is arrested in Hacienda Heights worth $3 million

Deputies for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department won more than $3 million in illegal marijuana cultivation work during the raid in Hacienda Heights Wednesday.

Officials say the Department of Industry’s Department’s County Special Assignment Team has executed a search warrant targeting unlicensed growth, finding that the home has bypassed electrical panels and meters, stealing an estimated $500,000 worth of electricity over a few years. Edison in Southern California said the home consumes about $18,000 in electricity a month.

“Operations today send a clear message that criminal conduct is not tolerated in Los Angeles County,” said Glenn Emery, the Sheriff’s Department of Industry. “Our community deserves to live freely from the risks and risks associated with illegal marijuana growth operations.”

Authorities stressed that electricity theft poses a significant fire risk to surrounding areas, putting both residents and first responders at risk. According to law enforcement, illegal growth can also contribute to environmental damage and can attract other criminal activities.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to the representatives from the city of the Industrial Bureau, particularly those assigned to the task force in the unintegrated area,” said L. A. County Superintendent Hilda L. Solis, who will represent and chair the first district. “This professional task force, which has proudly supported us at $5,225,000 in funding this fiscal year, has played a key role in addressing quality of life concerns across Hacienda Heights in the first district and other unincorporated regions.”

Solis added that coordination with Southern California Edison, who helped flag the home for unusual power use, “helps identify and dismantle this illegal operation.”

The house was then closed and investigations are underway.

The search and seizures were part of an ongoing effort to protect illegal growth and protection in unconsolidated areas of Los Angeles County and to protect public safety.
