Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass lifted a curfew in the Downtown LA area after more than a week of protests and demonstrations.
The curfew was enacted on June 10th after individuals plundered businesses, ran around cars and destroyed government buildings. Previously it covered less than 8 square miles of DTLA.

In a press release, Bass said curfew and crime prevention efforts were “largely successful” in protecting property from “bad actors who don’t care about the immigrant community.”
Several businesses across SoCal were reporting a struggle during civil unrest.
“I’m effectively lifting curfews [Tuesday]and as we continue to adapt quickly to the chaos coming from Washington, we are ready to reissue curfews if necessary,” Buss said.

The mayor’s office said curfew was cut as part of a gradual approach to staff following “significant reductions” of violence, vandalism and looting.
More than 500 people were arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department between June 7th and June 15th.
