The city council in the Rhode Island capital supports the distribution of mailers “know your rights” to residents who direct how to deal with law enforcement amid the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement.

Providence households will receive a card advising constitutional rights in English and Spanish when faced by US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Instruct residents not to open the door unless officers present a valid warrant signed by a judge. The bottom of the card can be cut out, stored in your wallet, and presented to immigration enforcement.

“Providence City Council is partnering with organisations representing our diverse communities to promote safety and inclusion in the face of the fear and uncertainty that permeates our city’s immigrant communities due to the reckless cruelty of the Trump administration,” Council’s Rachel Miller said in a statement.

“For nearly 400 years, immigration has been an integral part of Providence,” she added. “The council stands together, immigrants are welcome here and we work together to encourage all members of our community to educate themselves on their constitutional rights and where they can find help if they need it.”

The council worked with more than a dozen local immigration rights and advocacy groups in mailer. The city spent $17,000 on mailers, a council spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Fox News Digital reached out to Rhode Island Republicans for comment.

Mailer responds to the Trump administration’s illegal immigration operations that illegally target people living in the United States.

Democrats have denounced the business, claiming it will separate families and put the community at risk. Los Angeles saw several days of riots earlier this month after ice agents arrested multiple illegal immigrants, many with criminal records, during several operations in and around the city.

Brooke Taylor of Fox News contributed to this report.
