The US Department of Homeland Security offers student loan exemptions and repayment options, as well as a signature bonus of up to $50,000 to recruit more immigrants and customs enforcement agents.
On Tuesday, DHS announced the launch of its National Defense Initiative to recruit more federal agents. The initiative offers a “robust package of federal law enforcement incentives” that includes enhanced retirement benefits, in addition to signature bonuses and student loan forgiveness options.
DHS said the funds to support the campaign come from President Donald Trump’s one big beautiful new bill.
To promote the initiative, the department said it would distribute recruitment materials to university campuses, a network of law enforcement agencies, and employment fairs across major cities across the nation.
Trump’s sweeping budget and tax bill codifies his 2017 tax cuts and includes a break in tip income, but also cuts programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid.
The DHS advocacy campaign is as the Trump administration continues to focus on immigration.
