Citing “enough resources,” the Los Angeles Police Department has decided to increase patrols in East Hollywood at the 16th Thai New Song Kram Festival in Thailand on Sunday after a Saturday night vehicle attack at the Filipino Heritage Festival in Vancouver.
Asked whether the increase in patrols is responding to violence on the north, LAPD General Rosario Cervantes told City News Service that he “knows Vancouver.”
At least 11 people were killed when a man drove his car into a crowd at the City of Canada’s annual Lapu Lapu Festival. The 30-year-old suspect is in custody, and the Vancouver Police Department said authorities “confident the incident is not a terrorist act.”
The Thai Festival was held all day on Hollywood Boulevard, from West Avenue to Normandy Avenue. The parade will start at 8am and the festival will end at 10pm
Additional barriers have been added to block vehicles from entering the festival area.
Thai festivals include live music, Muay Thai boxing demos, religious ceremonies, Thai cuisine and the Miss Song Grand USA Beauty Contest. It also offers a health fair that includes free or low-cost basic health checks, blood pressure measurements, and blood glucose and cholesterol tests.
