Exclusive: Indiana gets its own version of Wannial Catraz with 1,000 beds in Florida.

“Speedway Slammer” is located at Miami Correctional Center in Miami County, between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. The name nods to Indiana’s racing culture, including the annual Indianapolis 500.

“We are proud to work with President Trump and Secretary Noam as we are removing the worst and worst with this innovative partnership,” Indiana Gov. Mike Brown said in a statement Tuesday. “Indiana has adopted a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combat illegal immigration and will continue to lead among the states.”

The funds were raised from a settlement bill signed by President Donald Trump last month and are called “one big, beautiful bill.”

According to DHS, in addition to 80,000 ice detention beds, it also funded a 287(g) programme that promotes immigration and customs enforcement and local government cooperation.

“Now come to Indiana: Speedway Slammer. Today we are announcing a new partnership with Indiana to expand its detention bed space with 1,000 beds,” Homeland Security Department’s Department of Christie Noem said in a statement. “We would like to thank Governor Brown for helping us get rid of the worst and worst in our country. If you are illegally in America, you can find yourself in Speedway Slammer in Indiana. Use the CBP Home App to avoid arrests and self-deportation.”

Trump says the only way out of “Algater Alcatraz” is to exile

US President Donald Trump will tour the immigration detention center called “Alligator Alcatraz” on July 1, 2025 at Dade Collier Training and Transition Airport in O’Copy, Florida.

The Trump administration continues its deportation operation to encourage people who are illegally in the country but have no additional criminal history for self-report. According to DHS, the administration offers $1,000 and free travel abroad if it leaves the country.

Alligator Alcatraz opened this summer with federal officials and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. This is intended to be a halt point before an individual in the country is illegally deported. The facility initially used state funds, but also receives money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It can accommodate 2,000 people, but is expected to accommodate 4,000 in the future, and deportation flights have already begun at the end of last month.

“We are happy to report that those flights from Wannial Catraz by DHS have begun. The rhythm is increasing. We already have many flights. [that] It was removed from here,” DeSantis said at the time.

When they end up on Self-Deport or “Alligator Alcatraz”, Noem warns immigrants during their Trump visit

According to WJHL, the facility is the Everglades’ decommissioned airport, and a second center could be built in Florida. Sunshine State leaders faced scrutiny from both left-wing immigrants and environmental activists for their location and purpose.

“It is a cruel and absurd proposal to build a naked-bone tent tent detention centre in the middle of the Everglades and expose imprisoned migrants to the elements,” Dr. Melissa Abdo, Suncoast Regional Director of the National Park Conservation Association, said in a July 1 statement opposed to the facility. “The Everglades’ intense heat, humidity and storms can be dangerous without proper precautions. The severe nature of this facility’s remoteness can be put into very real danger, especially as Florida’s heat index skyrocket and hurricane season escalates.”
