The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Indiana filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Tuesday, with the legal status of seven Indiana international students reportedly ending without explanation.
The lawsuit alleges that the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) violated legitimate process rights because it did not provide students with the opportunity to challenge the decision. The suit is the names of DHS secretaries Christie Noem and Todd Lyons, acting directors of US immigration and customs enforcement.
The Trump administration has targeted hundreds of international students in recent weeks for its involvement in anti-Israel protests, claiming the administration is supportive of the US and designated terrorist organization Hamas. The administration has also revoked visas for international students for past violations, such as traffic violations.
“There is no rhyme or reason for the actions of DHS,” said Ken Falk, ACLU, Indiana Legal Director. “To end the status of international students, the US government must adhere to regulatory standards and provide a basic due process.

The plaintiffs argued that international students are permitted to continue their research and maintain legal residency status even after their visa has been revoked.
The lawsuit called on the US District Court to allow seven international students to continue their research by reviving their status. A temporary restraining order is also being requested to provide immediate protection to students, according to the Indiana ACLU.
Of the students appointed in the lawsuit, six are Chinese citizens attending Purdue University or Indiana University Indianapolis. Another student is a Nigerian citizen attending the University of Notre Dame. Two of the seven students named were scheduled to graduate next month.
“The impact on these students’ lives is profound and now I live in fear of being deported anytime,” Faulk continued. “We are calling on the court to take immediate action to stop these illegal activities.”

Fox News Digital reached out to DHS for comment but did not respond immediately.
The lawsuit is one of the rising complaints the White House faces over revoking its student visa.
Many international students whose visas have been terminated without explanation recently filed another lawsuit against the Trump administration over allegedly breaching the due process.
