Three people were injured in a shooting in New York City’s iconic Times Square, police said Saturday.

New York police said the 17-year-old boy was taken into custody and questioned about the shooting. The fee has not been pressed yet.

Social media videos show police attending injured people fleeing the scene, surrounding vehicles and lying on the ground.

Three people were hospitalized and explained that injuries were not life-threatening. Police say the victims were an 18-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man and a 65-year-old man.

Filming took place at 1:20am at the intersection of 44th Avenue, east of Seventh Avenue.

Police said they reported a shooting followed a verbal altercation between the shooter and one of the victims.

New York City has seen a significant decline in gun violence this year. Until August 3rd, we saw the fewest shootings in decades. This is a 23% decrease from last year.

New York bans firearms from so-called sensitive locations such as public transport, hospitals, schools and Times Square, demanding that handgun owners prove “good moral character.”

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to challenge the state’s gun laws in April.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
