(Nexstar) – A police officer was injured in an active shooter at Emory University in Atlanta on Friday.
The university warned students in a social media post at 5:01pm, an hour and a half later, to “run, hide, fight,” and the university said the shelter was lifted.
At 6:43pm, Atlanta police said there was “no continued threat to the Emory Campus or the surrounding area.”
“One shooter, currently deceased, was involved in the incident,” police said. Atlanta police confirmed that one officer was injured while responding to the incident. It was not immediately clear whether other people were injured or not.
The shooting was reported at the CVS Pharmacy in Emory Point, down the street from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Aerial images taken by a local news helicopter showed a large police presence and one person was loaded into a stretcher’s ambulance.
Atlanta police continued to ask people to avoid Clifton Road, near the university on Friday evening.

Deli staff near the campus locked the door and hid inside. Brandy Guillard, General Muir’s chief operating officer, said internal staff had heard a series of gunshots.
“It sounded like the fireworks went out one after the other,” she said.
“We are terrified of Emory University news and pray for the safety of the entire campus community,” said Georgia Attorney General Chris Kerr.
