A previously deported Iranian who lived illegally in the United States was arrested in Texas this week, federal prosecutors said.
Jamil Barouli was found at Austin’s home, and after deportation officers skipped with an appointment at the Immigration Bureau, he tried to arrest him as part of a 2020 removal order, the Justice Department said.
When authorities found Barouli at the doorway at his home, he “refusing to be arrested and by knocking on the door of deportation officers, he took measures designed to prevent or interfere with deportation and departure in accordance with the outstanding final order of retirement,” court documents state.

He is being charged with failing deportation. Bahlouli was self-declared to Canada on October 14, 2021 following the removal order.
However, he illegally re-entered the United States at one point and was discovered around December 15, 2023, authorities said.
The Justice Department said the removal order, which was used for the first time in 2020, has been revived.

He was charged with information involving illegal re-entry and illegal entry and was convicted in Montana on January 5, 2024, according to court documents.
He was sentenced to service and released to the US, Barouli was scheduled to report to the San Antonio Ice Office on January 23, 2024, but never showed up, authorities said.

He faces up to four years in prison. Ice is investigating the incident.
