The Israeli Defense Forces have said they have killed a Gaza man who claimed to be pose as an Al Jazeera journalist, but news networks say Anas al-Sharif is a journalist and that he and four other staff members were killed in a targeted Israeli airstrike.
In the report, Al Jazeera was called the murder of Al Sharif and four other staff members.
The network said Al-Sharif. Another journalist, Mohammed Kreike. Camera operators Ibrahim Zahher, Mohammed Nuffal and Moammen Aliwa were killed.
The network reported that he died “on an Israeli strike targeted at Gaza city’s tent housing journalist.”
The Israeli Defense Forces alleged that Al Sharif was “head of the terrorists of the Hamastero organization and was responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF forces.”
In a statement about the killing, the IDF said it said “a number of previously intellectual information and documents found in the Gaza Strip have been released.”
Al Jazeera reported that Al Sharif was the famous Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent who reported extensively from northern Gaza.
The network said 10 of its staff have been killed by Israel since Israel launched the war in Gaza in 2023.
Israel launched an attack in Gaza targeting Hamas after a Hamas-led terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, with 251 people being held hostage. Many of the targets of these Hamas-led attacks were civilians, including the music festival.
More than 61,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the attack began, according to the Enclave’s Ministry of Health.
Al Jazeera is a network funded by the Qatar government. The Israeli government has condemned it for its biased reporting of conflict and violence, including itself and Palestinian territory.

Israel said last week it would control Gaza city, a war escalation. The move was criticised and announced that Germany had halted exports of military equipment that can be used in Gaza to Israel.
The committee protecting journalists said Israel has a long-standing practice of accusing journalists of being terrorists without providing credible evidence.
It is called Al Sharif, one of Al Jazeera’s most famous journalists, and has recently reported the lack of territorial granted assistance for starvation in Gaza.
“The pattern of labeling extremists to Israeli journalists without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about their intentions and respect for freedom of the press,” CPJ Regional Director Sarah Kuda said in a statement. “Journalists are civilians and should never be targeted. Those responsible for these killings must be held accountable.”
After an IDF spokesman accused Al-Sharif of being in Hamas’ military division in July, Al-Sharif told CPJ he was being retaliated for news reports that made Israel look bad.
“All of this is happening because my coverage of the crimes of Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip harms them and damages the image of the world. They accuse me of being a terrorist because the occupation morally wants to assassinate me,” Al-Sharif told CPJ.
The “worst-scenario of hunger” is being deployed in the Gaza Strip under Israeli attacks, and the integrated food security stage classification states.
