The US Embassy in Israel has issued security alerts to citizens overseas and US government officials as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran is escalating.
Federal employees and their families are being urged to evacuate until further notice, officials said, and plans are currently being developed for US civilians looking to leave Israel or the West Bank.
The State Department says U.S. citizens will be warned if additional information about deviations becomes available.
The federal government emphasizes that it will not provide direct transport to the United States, but to nearby countries with safer conditions.
“You will be responsible for your progress once you arrive in a nearby safe country,” the security alert reads. Retirees also need to sign a promissory note to pay the government, although they do not require payment before boarding.
US citizens or legal permanent residents currently living in Israel or the West Bank must complete a “crisis intake” form on the State Department’s website for timely updates and additional assistance.
The Iran-Israel conflict has escalated sharply in recent weeks, with both countries trading airstrikes and missile attacks.
Israel targets Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, and Iranian forces launched drones and missiles in Israeli cities and attacked civilian sites.
President Donald Trump has made clear his support for Israel and the US is now considering whether to intervene in the military, but the international community is calling for diplomacy to spread the crisis.
