The Eaton Fire destroyed Altadena, which includes historically black neighborhoods populated by homeowners and businesses.
Among those who lost their homes were Cheryl Conley, Bobby Thompson and Jeannie Thompson, who visited KTLA’s studios Monday to discuss the impact the fire has had on them and their neighborhood. We talked about it.
“It still hurts,” Bobby Thompson said. “We worked hard to get what we got, and in a day, in a few hours, it’s gone. It really hurts.”
So far, they have survived with the help of loved ones.
“Our family and friends have blessed us so much,” Jeannie Thompson said.
After the destruction, Conley said all they owned was the clothes they were wearing, and that they “ran out in their pajamas and house slippers.”
Despite the devastation, so many people have come forward to help, and at this time Conley and the Thompson family say what they need most is cash and gift cards.
“Remember, we don’t need stuff. What we need to move forward is money and gift cards. We don’t have anywhere to put things.” Jeannie pointed out.
