Millions of Americans will have to file their 2024 taxes by Tuesday, but Southern California residents will likely spend a little more time.
The Internal Revenue Service and California announced in January that individual taxpayers could file their tax returns up to six months after the deadline due to a fatal wildfire.

The October 15th deadline applies to individual income tax returns and payments, normally scheduled for April 15th. According to the tax agency, the relief also applies to estimated tax payments for 2024, which usually expires on January 15th, and is usually scheduled for June 15th, June 15th and September 15th.
The extension deadline also applies to affected businesses.
Quarterly pay and excise tax returns are typically scheduled for January 31, April 30, and July 31, 2025. The calendar year partnership and S Corporation are scheduled for March 17, 2025. Typically, returns and payments for businesses and trustees will be due on April 15th, 2025 for calendar year.
The IRS and California Tax Commission have implemented automatic extensions to submit taxes. No application is required.
