Jane’s addiction sues lead singer Perry Farrell after an on-stage attack

Rock group Jane addictions Dave Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins are suing lead singer Perry Farrell following the aftermath of an on-stage attack in September 2024.

During the show, Farrell threw a punch at Navarro. Following the incident, band members pulled out plugs for the rest of the impending redemption tour.

Group members filed a complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday, suing the singer for $10 million, alleging that the incident took a new album as well as a tour. They claim they lost about $10 million following Farrell’s actions and are hoping to pay for the cancellation.

“The band no longer functions as a result of the defendant’s actions, including his sudden violent outburst, demonstrating that they cannot function as the band’s frontman and vocalist,” Suit reads. “The physical, emotional and economic harms produced by the defendant have deeply affected the plaintiff, his family and his loved ones. It is time for the defendant to face and take responsibility for the consequences of his actions.”

Farrell is charged with assault, battery, intentional effects of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract, according to court documents.

The lawsuit alleges that a attack on Farrell’s Navarro came when the guitarist was dealing with the long Covid, forcing him in 2022. Two years later, he returned to the band’s European and North American tour.

“Navalro has completed disability payments of $25,000 a month to return to work with the band,” the lawsuit said. “If Navarro had not finished paying for the disability, taking into account his condition, Navarro would have received a $25,000 payment for several years. For several months, Navarro worked hard to prepare himself physically and mentally, physically and mentally, including meeting doctors, nutritionists and therapists.”

The lawsuit even pointed out that Navarro had postponed his Scottish wedding and now he had handled tours with his wife Vanessa Dobasso. The move cost him “about $50,000 in lost deposits to various vendors.”

The on-stage brawl between Navarro and Farrell took place on September 13th in Boston. In the video, we see Farrell sing loudly to his microphone, charging into Navarro. He then slams Navarro with his shoulder before swinging towards him with his right arm. The guitarist is seen clutching his right arm to keep him apart before he is dragged by someone else on stage. The show ended quickly.

A few days later, the band went to Instagram and announced that they had “made the difficult decision to take away some time as a group.”

“Continued behavioral patterns and singer Perry Farrell’s mental health challenges have led us to conclude that we have no choice but to cancel our current US tour.” “Our concerns about his personal health and safety and our own concerns leave us with no alternatives. We hope we find the help he needs.”

Farrell then announced an apology.

“After this weekend was extremely difficult and having the time and space to reflect, it’s right to apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends about my actions during the show on Friday,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, my breakpoint has resulted in unacceptable behavior, and I will be fully accountable for how I chose to handle the situation.”

So far, Farrell has not commented on the current lawsuit.
