Jannik Sinner wins his first Wimbledon title and beats two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon Championship by beating two-time defending champions Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4 on Sunday, overturning the results of the epic French Open Finals five weeks ago.

The No. 1 rank sinner won his entire fourth Grand Slam title, moving him away from the total of the second Alcaraz as two young rivals separated himself from the rest of the pack of men’s tennis.

This victory allowed the 23-year-old Italian sinner to end some stripes of Alcaraz, a 22-year-old Spaniard.

Alcaraz won his past five head and head matchups at Roland-Garros on June 8th with five sets and nearly five sets. Sinner took two sets of leads in one, then retained a trio of match points, but was unable to close the deal. That made Alcaraz 5-0 in the major finals.

Italian Giannique Sinner celebrates after winning the final men’s singles match against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London on Sunday, July 13th, 2025

In addition to ending that perfection, the sinner claimed himself in matches featuring great moments of play by both men, and occasional lapses.

Alcaraz stepped into Nikko’s Bathing Center Court as the owner of a career-high 24-game unbeaten run. He won 20 consecutive matches at the All-England Club, including a victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2023 and 2024 finals.

The last man to defeat Alcaraz at Wimbledon? Sinner, 4th round of 2022.

So this served as a bookend victory for the sinner. He proved what he said to the person he asked: No, there would be no carryover from his broken heart in Paris. But it’s hard to imagine that the collapse was at least a bit unheard of on Sunday.

However, he settled down and grabbed the next four points to grab there and quickly managed to win. When it was finished, the sinner placed his hands on his white hat. After hugging Alkaraz online, the sinner bowed his head and crouched down in the courtroom, slamming his right palm on the grass.

Yes, the sinner has put the French behind him in the best possible way, demonstrating that a matchup with Alcaraz could please tennis fans for years to come.

They split the past seven Grand Slam trophies and nine of the past 12.

Aptly, this was the first time that the same two men in the same year had faced off in the same year in the Roland Garos clay and the All-England Club grass title match in the same year since Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal did it in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Thinner has participated in each of the past four major finals. This was a stretch that won the US Open last September, followed by another one at the Australia Open this January.

Wore the same tape work and white arm sleeves, protecting the right elbow he’d been using since falling into the opening game of his fourth victory on Monday, but Thinner showed no issues as he hadn’t ruled out 24 major champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
