Jay North, who starred as a prank maker who was led in Shiki’s TV series “Dennis the Menace,” which began in 1959, has passed away. He was 73 years old.
North died Sunday at his home in Butler Lake, Florida, after fighting Cologne, said longtime friend Laurie Jacobson and his booking agent Bonnie Bent.
“He had a mountain of heart and loved his friends deeply. He frequently called us and finished all the conversations, ‘I love you with all my heart,'” Jacobson paid tribute on Facebook.
North was six years old and was cast as a troublemaker for the smiles in the CBS sitcom adaptation of Hank Ketchum’s popular comic strip in an idyllic American suburb.
Often wearing a striped shirt and overalls, Dennis’ mischievous attitude frequently irritated his retired neighbor, George Wilson, played by Joseph Kerns. Dennis’s patient’s parents were played by Herbert Anderson and Gloria Henry.
The show ran on Sunday night until it was cancelled in 1963. Then it was a fixture for decades of syndication.
North then appeared on television on shows such as “The Man from Uncle,” “Lucy Show,” “My Three Sons,” “Lassie,” “The Simpsons,” “Maya,” “Maya” (1966), “Teacher” (1974), and “Dickey Robert: The Former Child Star” (2003).
The North was survived by his third wife, Cindy and three stepdaughters.
