Vice President JD Vance is Sen. Mitch McConnell R-Ky. against the vote against confirming that Elbridge Colby will serve as defence secretary of policy.
“Mitch’s vote today is one of the great acts of political pettiness I’ve ever seen, like many of the past few years of his career,” declared Vance in an X post.
Colby was confirmed on Tuesday with a 54-45 vote. McConnell was the only Senate Republican to vote against confirmation, but three Democrats voted in favor of Colby.

President Donald Trump announced Colby that he had chosen the Pentagon Post during the presidential election.
“Elbridge Colby’s long public record suggests the complexity of the challenges facing America, the key values of our allies and partners, and the willingness to downplay the urgent need to invest in efforts to maintain America’s superiority,” McConnell said in a statement.
“The prioritization that Colby argues is fresh, new and urgently needed is actually a return to the Obama-era concept of a la carte geography strategy. Abandoning Ukraine and Europe and underestimating the Middle East to prioritize the Indo-Pacific is not a clever geopolitical shaking. To capitalize on it, the senators argued.

McConnell voted against multiple Trump candidates this year.

Vance spoke in support of Colby at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing last month on Colby’s nomination.
