John Goodman shows off his true sparkle.
When the 73-year-old graced the red carpet for the “Smurf” premiere in Los Angeles on July 13th, he fully exhibited his dramatic weight loss.
For the premiere of the film, which voices Papa Smurf alongside cast members Rihanna and James Corden, “Rosanne” alumni wore navy suits and white shirts with brown ties and loafers.
There was a harsh contrast between Goodman’s current appearance and what he looked like when he stopped drinking around 2007 and began working out because he “wanted to live a better life.”
“I know it sounds sappy, but it was no use,” he told people about his then 100 pounds. Weight loss in 2010.
Since then, the “The Right Jewel” star has reflected how he has learned to keep his weight down.

“I’ve stopped eating all the time,” Goodman told ABC News in 2016.
The 63-year-old at the time said, “I’m now old enough to sit still. I’m tired, sick, tired of looking at myself. You’re shaved in the mirror and you don’t want to see yourself. It’s dangerous.”
Furthermore, as explained by Goodman, who was also open about his drinking journey for many years, he ultimately spoke to his unhealthy habits by seeing what he believes to be a deeper cause.
“I think you’re trying to fill a hole that can’t be filled, not saying religion, unless it’s filled with good, some kind of spirituality,” he shared. “But a belief in something higher than you, a purpose. But instead of satisfying it with alcohol, cocaine, or food, you just accept it that it is there. You can’t fulfill it. And you will continue to live with it.”
Goodman has since said that Rolling Stone lost 200 pounds in 2023, and that the training he chose to train is boxing, pointing out “hit mitz, hit the bag, learn to work footwork.”
