John Legend may have ego, but his latest honor is something he has worked hard for as he decided he wanted to pursue music.

On Thursday afternoon, he was recognized as Charity of the Year at the upcoming Social Impact Summit of the Hollywood Reporter and Social Impact Fund’s Charity of the Year at his longtime Social Impact Summit to promote equity and criminal justice reform.

The legend has worked with the organization of Susan Burton. This is a new way of life that helps women re-enter society after imprisonment.

“We conspire to make our world and our country more fair, to enhance people and change people’s lives,” the legend said of their working relationship.

Burton awarded the “Love Me Now” singer. This comes as we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of our debut album, “Get Lifted.” He even explained at the time, his eyes were to make a difference.

“When we were building it, we were writing songs for ‘Get Lifted’, and it wasn’t known yet. He was still trying to get a record deal. I was still trying to sign and put my music into the world. However, when I was 15 I wrote an essay saying this was something I wanted to do.

“When we were focusing on the music and business side, I was always on the lookout for social impact,” he continued. “I’m so happy that we can make it happen.”

Sponsored by Biopharmaceutical Company Gilead, the West Hollywood event brought together changemakers, creatives and leaders to encourage accessible and impactful philanthropy by breaking down barriers to meaningful change.

Comedian and actor George Lopez served as keynote speaker for the summit. He explained how these events are important, taking into account everything that is happening in the country at the moment.

“Charity has always been at the forefront of helping people in need,” he explained. “In particular, in times when people are afraid of going outside and gathering, families are torn apart, people are separated. People who can help those people are when we gather and not silence.”

Other winners included actors Sean Penn and Ann Lee. They co-founded the core. It is “a non-profit humanitarian organization that responds to disasters around the world. We provide life-saving resources in the aftermath of life-saving and empower communities to become independent in the long run,” according to the website.

Core was honored as Charity Organization of the Year.

The summit panel touched on women’s health and wellness, foster parents, women and girls advocacy, and LGBTQ+ rights. They included celebrities such as Olympian Allison Felix, NKO Club founders Kendall Toll and Elaine Welters.
