House Speaker Mike Johnson said he hopes that Elon Musk and President Donald Trump will be able to repair their relationship following their public clash. “It has a lot of feelings involved, but it’s the national interest for everyone to work together,” the Louisiana Republican told ABC News “This Week.” Johnson said he hadn’t spoken to Musk about the GOP-led spending bill since last Monday.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday that he hopes President Donald Trump and President Elon Musk can be “reconciliated” after last week’s public fallout.

“It has a lot of feelings involved, but it’s the national interest for everyone to work together,” the Louisiana Republican told ABC News “This Week.”

Johnson said he hasn’t spoken with Musk about the GOP-led “big, beautiful bill” since last Monday.

Last week, Musk ranted a multi-billion dollar spending package that passed the house slightly, calling it “nasty and hateful” that led to an explosive federal deficit.

On Sunday, Johnson aside CEO’s criticism of Tesla’s bill.

“I didn’t go out to create laws to please the world’s wealthiest man. What we’re trying to do is help hardworking Americans,” he said.

The spending bill is currently in the Senate.

CNBC previously reported, part of the opposition to Musk’s voice, sparked a public conflict between Trump and the founder of billionaire SpaceX.

White House spokesperson Caroline Lewitt said Sunday on “Fox Sunday Morning Futures,” the two men have not spoken since their feud, adding that she doesn’t think Trump is “intentional.”

Trump also told NBC News’ Kristen Welker on Saturday that he had no interest in repairing his relationship with the mask after spatting, indicating that the cleft could be irreversible.

Musk was the biggest donor of the 2024 presidential campaign, and his super PAC spent about $200 million to promote Trump to the White House.

Amidst Musk’s criticism of the bill, he threatened to “dismiss all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

But Trump warned on Saturday that Musk would pay “very serious consequences” if he funds Democratic candidates who are challenging Republicans who support the bill.

Johnson, a loyal Trump ally, reflected the president’s remarks, saying that Musk would be a “big mistake” if he supports a Democratic candidate.
