The Department of Health and Human Services rejected all members of the Advisory Committee on Vaccination Practices (ACIP) on Monday.
According to a news release from HHS, the committee’s job was to determine and “recommendate” a “recommendation” related to vaccine needs and use.
All current members of the committee have been brought into the Biden administration, of which 13 were placed on the committee last year. HHS said that if most members are expiring, it will take until 2028 for most members to be exchanged.

Public debates on vaccines, particularly whether governments and the workplace should mandate them, have escalated during the Covid-19 pandemic. ACIP has fallen to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where much of the criticism and skepticism has fallen to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Today, we prioritize restoring public trust over certain provaxin or anti-vaccine agendas,” Chief Robert F. Kennedy said in a statement Monday. “The public must know that there is bias that is valued through a transparent process and is isolated from conflicts of interest.
HHS’ release noted that the committee’s next meeting will take place in Atlanta from June 25-27, noting that the committee has new people “currently under consideration.”

“A clean sweep is needed to reestablish public confidence in vaccine science,” Kennedy continued. “New members of ACIP will prioritize public health and evidence-based healthcare. The committee will no longer function as rubber stamps on the industry’s benefits agenda. The world has once sought guidance, inspiration, scientific equity and essential integrity from American health regulators. Public trust has been eroded.
The HHS cited an executive order from President Donald Trump, saying there is a need for change in how the federal government plays a role in science and health.
“Unfortunately, the federal government has contributed to this loss of trust. In some notable cases, the enforcement department and agencies (institutions) have used or promoted scientific information in a highly misleading way,” the order states.

“In previous administrations, for example, it was understood that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would issue Covid-19 guidance on reopening schools, which incorporates edits from the American Federation of Teachers, to block in-person learning,” the order signed on May 23 continued.
“The limited and burdensome reopening conditions of this guidance have left many schools at least partially closed, which has had a major negative impact on educational outcomes.
Kennedy was confirmed by the Senate to lead the division in February after Trump nominated him.
