Jonathan Joss, 59, who voiced the character John Red Corn in the animated series “King of the Hill,” was shot and killed in San Antonio, Texas over the weekend.
At about 7pm on Sunday, police responded to an ongoing shooting on Dorsey Drive, south of the city. When officers arrived they found Joss near the road, local police told KTLA 5.
“Officers have attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrives. EMS has declared that the victim has passed away,” police said in a statement.
Officers later detained 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja and charged him with murder.
“Preliminary information suggests that there was a debate that the shot was fired,” police said.

Ceja is believed to live in the area, but law enforcement officers were unable to confirm whether he and Joss were neighbors.
TMZ first reported the death, saying that his neighbor pulled the trigger after the conflict. The suspect reportedly fired at Joss and then fled the scene in his car.
On Monday afternoon, Joss’ partner Tristan Khan De Gonzalez explained the details.
“My husband, Jonathan Joss and I got caught up in a shooting while checking mail on the property of our previous home, which burned out after more than two years of threat from local people who repeatedly said they would set it on fire.
His partner said the couple was regularly harassed by people who “revealed it” who didn’t accept their relationship. “A lot of the harassment was openly homophobic,” explained de Gonzalez.
When the couple returned to their burnt-out home and checked their emails, they found a skull and a harness from one of the dogs.
“This caused both of us to suffer serious emotional distress. We began to scream and cry in response to the pain of what we saw,” the Post continued. “A man came up to us while we were doing this. He started screaming violent homophobic slur at us. He lifted his gun from his knee and fired him.”
TMZ said the witnesses had said Joss was “distraught” after seeing his skull and screaming at anyone who passed him in the area.
The actor’s partner said the two had no weapons and they weren’t threatening anyone.
“We were sad. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” DeGonzalez said.
He explained that the couple got married this Valentine’s Day and were planning their future together, looking for a trailer.
“He was killed by someone who couldn’t stand the sight of two men who loved each other,” DeGonzales claimed. “I was with him when he passed away. I told him how much he was loved.”
Now he is focused on protecting Joss’ legacy and celebrating the life they are building together.
“Jonathan saved my life. I’ll move it forward. I’ll protect what he’s built,” he concluded.
Police said they could not verify De Gonzales’ account as an investigation is underway.
Joss worked on “King of the Hill” from seasons 2 to 13, replacing former voice actor Victor Aaron, who died in a car accident in 1996. The series aired on Fox from 1997 to 2009 and was created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. It follows family and friends in Hank Hill who live in a fictional town in Aarlen, Texas.
Joss also played Ken Scallop Chief in “Parking and Recreation.” Other acting credits include “Ray Donovan,” “Tulsa King,” and “The Magniffin Seven.”
