Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, was criticized by both X users and the platform itself over a post in which she claimed police officers were “injured and killed” during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. is facing a backlash.

“Four years ago, the certification of electoral votes was interrupted by a violent mob. A police officer was injured and killed,” Klobuchar wrote on X on Tuesday. “Our democracy was on the line. We knew we had to do our duty and complete the count, and in the early morning hours of January 7, we did just that.”

The post was soon followed by a “community note” written by X that read, “No cops were killed.”

“The coroner found that Sicknick died of natural causes, which means that “only illness can cause death. If death was hastened by injury, the manner of death cannot be considered natural.” The other four officers committed suicide within days or months later. ”

“The police officer was not killed,” conservative commentator Dana Loesch posted on X.

“Zero officers died,” Red State writer Bonchy posted on X. “It was long ago that we stopped lying about this.”

“Can someone please explain to me why it’s okay for politicians to keep lying about this?” Bonchy added. “Let’s say you think J6 was the worst incident in history. That’s fine, but how is it acceptable to say that a police officer was killed? Four years later, fact-checkers are still saying, I don’t want to touch on the matter.”

“It’s so disgusting to see people lie about who was killed,” Federalist editor-in-chief Molly Hemingway posted on X. “Trump supporters were shot and killed, but no police officers were killed. No one of your stature should lie.” You’re brazenly lying about this. ”

“She should be called out for this lie,” Chris Barron, president of Right Turn Strategies, wrote on X.

“Not a single police officer was killed on January 6th,” Federalist election correspondent Brianna Lyman posted on X. “Mr. Sicknick died of natural causes on January 7th. In the weeks that followed, two police officers committed suicide, as did two other police officers who were not at the scene.” He died of an unrelated suicide. ”

Conservative writer Ben Kew posted on X that “No police officers were killed” and “Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt was the only person killed.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Klobuchar’s office for comment but did not receive a response.

U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes after suffering two strokes the day after confronting rioters on Jan. 6, Washington’s top medical examiner said.

“USCP accepts the findings of the District of Columbia Chief Medical Examiner’s Office that Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes,” the Capitol Police said in a 2021 press release. “The fact remains that Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty while heroically defending Congress and the Capitol.”

Law enforcement officials testified in 2021 that about 140 officers were injured in the riots.
