D-Ill Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi has launched a bid to win a Senate seat held by longtime D-Ill MP Sen. Dick Durbin, who announced in late April that he would not seek reelection.
Krishnamoorthi has joined an already crowded field, including D-Ill Rep. Robin Kelly and Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton. Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill, is also reportedly considering her own bid. However, Krishnamoorthi has raced in a rather $19 million campaign war chest, according to Politico.

Dick Durbin, no. 2 Senate Democrats don’t seek re-election
In an announcement video posted on his campaign’s X account on Tuesday, Krishnamoulty left the White House last week but vowed to stand up to “bullies like Donald Trump and Elon Musk.” Lawmakers portray the president as a leader “ignoring the constitution” and are appearing “for revenge.”

Lawmakers highlighted the family background as first-generation Americans who “were able to use food stamps and public housing to move to the middle class.” He also referred to his close relationship with former President Barack Obama, saying, “Illinois showed you that even if you have a funny name, you’ll get a shot.” He then promoted an A+ rating from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and the National Rifle Association’s F rating.

“I will never be quiet while billionaires like Elon Musk and the convicted felons deny the dreams of the next generation for their own ego and personal gain,” Krishnam Orti said in the video. He also vowed to “make America work for the people who work there.”
Krishnamoorthi was first elected to Congress in 2016 and is currently a ranking member of the CCP’s Select Committee. He is also a ranking member of the Subcommittee of the Healthcare and Financial Services Oversight Committee.
