When the Department of Homeland Security carried out at least two immigration operations in Huntington Park on Thursday morning, the woman said ice agents were coming to her home and looking for an undocumented husband.
A 28-year-old US citizen pregnant with twins said it was shocking to have an ice agent at your door, but Land Director Christie Noem was even more surprising.
“I’ve never heard of Christie Noem raiding like a show, like a lot of people who raid someone’s house, the whole team, that’s what it’s like a show,” Sabrina Medina said.
Surveillance video showed an ice agent appeared at 6am as Gnome was standing on the street with a federal agent.
Another video also showed members of her team having her vest on her as the agent moved to a Medina house and another house across the street.
Janice Hahn, LA County superintendent who served on NOEM and the Legislature, said the secretary chose to have a public sight while he was afraid of children and families in his neighborhood.
“You can say she was producing a full-camera crew. She had hair and makeup. She was doing shows,” Hearn said. “I really disagree with that. That really shouldn’t be what our government should do.”
Medina, scheduled for November, said the agent arrested him in the bathroom while he was in the shower and demanded he come out.
“I feel like a criminal right now,” she said. “I felt humiliated. I’m pregnant. I’m scared. I’m shaking.”
Medina said her undocumented husband, Jorge Saldana, had left the house the night before after a discussion began about the sighting of a federal agent. Her husband spent time on a violent attack without making clear what it was.
It is unknown if anyone was detained from the operation.
The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to NBC Los Angeles’ requests for comment.
