Baton Rouge, La. (WVLA) – Former LSU standout wide receiver Kyren Lacy has been killed, school officials confirmed with Nexstar’s WVLA. He was 24 years old.

Officials did not provide WVLA any additional details. Athletics, ESPN and NBC Sports confirmed that Lacey was found dead in Houston on Saturday night.

The cause of his death has not been announced.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kylen Lacey. Our thoughts and prayers have been influenced by the death of his family, loved ones, and his former teammates and coach,” LSU said in a statement.

In a Sunday morning Facebook post, Lacey’s father, Kenny Lacey, said, “Their lives will change forever and this will never be okay, but God needed my baby more than he needed here.”

“This must be the biggest medicine our family has had to engulf, but we know that the love and compassion of our family will pass through us,” he wrote. “This will never be easy, but we learn to live with it.”

Kenny Lacey also encouraged her parents to “start talking to your child at a very young age.”

“Mental health [sic] It is genuine and most of the time it is invisible, do not ignore the signs.

Lacey, 24, who was predicted as a potential pick in this year’s NFL Draft, was previously involved in a car accident in December, resulting in an elderly man being killed. The incident cast uncertainty on his future in football, leading to continued legal scrutiny.

Louisiana State Police accused Racy of passing multiple vehicles in a zone that does not pass through, and shook two approaching vehicles. Investigators said the incident caused a head-on collision between two vehicles that killed one of the vehicles, 78-year-old Herman Hall.

Lacey was also accused of calling 911 or reporting his involvement, even if he drove the crash and left without trying to help. Lacey’s lawyer, Matthew Ollie, said the former LSU wide receiver didn’t cause a crash as it happened in front of Lacey after the other cars crossed the centerline.

In February, Lacey denied causing the crash after surrendering herself to Louisiana State Police. Arrested warrants had been issued for Lacey for negligent murder, felony blows and reckless surgery on the vehicle. He was later released after posting $151,000 bail.

“Check out your people…” Detroit Lions cornerback Ennis Lackestau wrote on social media while sharing a post about Lacey’s death.

Thibodeau, Louisiana, played for LSU for three years after spending a season with the Louisiana Luggin Cajuns. His final season was his best, catching 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.

“The LSU Football Family lament the loss of Kylen Lacy,” the team posted on X on Sunday.
