If you actually lived in Los Angeles at any time, you probably ate at Du-Par’s Restaurant & Bakery, but according to a recent interview with the owner, the local facility for nearly 90 years has been struggling to float.

According to its website, the beloved diner-style restaurant, famous for its pancakes and pies, first opened its doors in 1938 at the famous La Farmers Market in the Fairfax area.

The original location is now the last of the once thriving chain in the city.

Frances Tario, president and CEO of Du-Par’s, began his career as a server at a restaurant before taking over the ownership.

“I didn’t know what I was obsessed with,” Talio said, “In a minute with Evan Lovett, the creator of LA and podcast host.” “I just thought, ‘Okay, I keep doing what I do every day,’ but now I wear a variety of shoes and hats. ”

Talio explained that, like many other LA restaurants, Du-Par has been struggling since the pandemic, and even worse, the Pallisard and Eton fires have only added to the challenge of keeping the doors open to the iconic diners.

“We were not in the fire ourselves, but the fire, [increased cost of] The situation regarding eggs and immigration – all of that hit us hard,” she explained to Lovett.

Talio said what the restaurant lacks is the amount of customers it paints and is making a move to get people back.

Starting April 4th, Du-Par’s will remain open until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights, along with a $12 “Blue Plate Special,” which includes coffee, points out by the restaurant’s website. The owner added that there will be an additional “early bird” special that will be announced soon.

Du-Par’s Restaurant & Bakery is located near the intersection of 3rd Street and Fairfax Avenue.
