This recent Santa Ana windstorm is creating dangerous conditions for many people in Los Angeles County, including those not necessarily in the Palisades, Eaton, or other areas near the fires.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a wind-driven dust and ash advisory, which is expected to last until 7 p.m. Wednesday, when wind speeds decrease.
“High winds could blow away ash from recent fires, creating dust that could impact air quality across Los Angeles County,” the agency said, citing the South Coast Air Quality Management District. did.
Air quality is expected to deteriorate in several areas, especially in areas downwind of recent burns.
Officials suggested the following preventive measures:
Stay indoors: Keep indoor air clean by closing windows and doors and using an air purifier or recirculating your air conditioning system. Wear a mask: If you must go outside, wear an N95 or P100 mask to protect your lungs. Secure loose items: Tie down items such as chairs, trash cans, and other outdoor belongings or bring them in so they don’t become a hazard. Protect your eyes: If you’re outdoors, wear goggles to protect your eyes from airborne ash and debris.
