The Oscar’s evening interview in Hollywood was interrupted in a very Los Angeles way.
LafdCapt. Erik Scott was one of the first responders to be recognized at the Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. In an interview after the show with NBCLA’s Robert Kovacik, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake centered around the San Fernando Valley was concentrated in North Hollywood and other parts of Los Angeles.
“It’s rather intense,” Scott said after feeling the shaking.
The 10:13pm earthquake on Sunday was in the heart of North Hollywood 1.4 miles southeast of North Hollywood and 1.7 miles north of Universal City. It was about 9 miles deep.
Shaking was reported from coast to inland areas.
Los Angeles area firefighters who fought the wildfires of January, including two of California’s deadliest and most destructive records, were recognized at the ceremony. The evening included an on-stage appearance by a unified firefighter.
They received a standing ovation.
Reading from the teleprompter, Scott said, “All of our hearts are directed at homeless people, including the producers of “Joker 2.”
Another firefighter joked about Timote Chalamett’s performance as Bob Dylan, who was called out to Twange in “The Complete Unknown,” and said the actor’s song was “very good.”
Scott was also one of the LAFD members who showed off the red carpet awards.
“We’re not in the spotlight,” Scott said in an interview. “It is difficult to take place without acknowledging the devastation that has occurred and the person responsible for trying to mitigate it.
“It’s definitely a highlight that one of us will never forget.”
