March Madness takes on a whole new meaning in Los Angeles next year.
The two world-famous events, the Oscar and the Los Angeles Marathon, are scheduled to take place on the same day, March 15th.
The two events not only share the same day, but also use the same location to raise questions about possible overlap. The 2025 marathon route went straight to the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, where Oscars held this year.
The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will be held again at the Dolby Theatre on March 15th.
Sources at the Academy say NBC4 has been talking to the mayor’s office and the city’s Department of Transportation and was told the marathon route would be moved to avoid Hollywood’s disruption with Oscar.
In a statement to NBC4, a spokesman for the LA Marathon wrote:
“The third Sunday of March is the traditional day of the Los Angeles Marathon. The 41st Los Angeles Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, March 15th, 2026, on the third Sunday of March. Our date was widely announced well before the Academy Awards revealed the date.
The mayor said he is working to ensure that both events go as planned.
“The city is investigating this issue. No matter what, we will work to ensure that these signature LA events are safe and successful for visitors and Angeleno to enjoy,” a mayor’s spokesman wrote.
