Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says what’s happening in her city doesn’t compare to the 1992 Rodney King riots that followed the acquittal of a white police officer videotaping a black driver.
Despite the growing list of arrests, tens of thousands of people have been on the streets and introduced a curfew, telling CNN’s “union status” on Sunday that this isn’t what happened more than 30 years ago.
“There are zero comparisons,” Bass told host Dana Bash. “I was in the epicenter when I was occurring.”
“It was unsettling for the citizens of the entire city,” she continued. “It was the worst of the nation in terms of the number of people killed, the number of people arrested, and unfortunately, it is pushed as if there is civil unrest everywhere, as the cities are in chaos.

The bus said anti-ice riots are occurring within a square mile of the 500-square-mile city. While talking to Bash, she admitted that both the police officer and the mob were injured during the anxiety.
The mayor has criticized the ice attacks for its economic impact, focusing on the construction, fashion and restaurant industries.

“The chaos and fear caused by the attacks have truly had devastating effects and we have a body for our economy. I don’t think the president understands that our entire economy cannot function without migrant labor,” she said.
On Saturday, the scene shifted from peace to violence as anxiety spurred the deployment of tear gas.

“The demonstration took the streets. A dispersed order will be issued to all in Alameda, south of Aliso and north of Temple, and will leave the area soon,” LAPD wrote in X’s warning.

“People in the crowd are throwing rocks, bricks, bottles and other objects. Not fatal, not fatal. It can cause discomfort and pain. I recommend that everyone leave the area.”
