Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is delaying his post-mortem action report on the Palisade Fire until a federal investigation into the ongoing federal cause is completed.

According to Bass, the delay is the result of a US lawyer’s office that demanded that LA leaders temporarily postpone their release as alcohol, cigarettes, firearms and explosives continue to investigate.

Some community groups have criticised the delay, claiming residents deserve an answer to the city’s response despite continuing federal investigations.

California law requires local governments to provide post-action reports following all declared disasters. The US Lawyer’s office is investigating to identify what caused the historic flames in January.

The Emergency Services Act states that the Department of Emergency Services will work with state and local agencies to report within 180 days of each declared disaster.

City officials anticipate litigation related to the response, hinting at the contents of the report that has both legal and financial impacts in Los Angeles.

A source close to the mayor told Fox News Digital that the report contains internal information about the city’s resources and how it was used since the fire began.

They also say the mayor appears eager to follow requests to delay the release.

A statement released by Bass on Tuesday noted that the delay was to avoid interference in the federal investigation and would be made immediately once the DOJ completes the investigation.

“According to state regulations (California Regulation Act, Title 19, §2450), the city of Los Angeles is required to complete an action report on the Palisade fire. Later last week, the US Lawyer’s Office for the Central District of California will be announced by the Federal Director in response to the conclusions of the US Bureau to avoid interference in the ongoing federal investigation.

The Palisade fire broke out in January, spreading rapidly to more than 23,000 acres, destroying more than 6,800 structures, claiming 12 lives and evacuating more than 100,000 residents. Overall, it had an estimated loss of between $28 billion and nearly $54 billion, and Palisade fired the third most devastating wildfire in California history.

Matt Finn of Fox News contributed to this report.
