The mayor’s office issued an emergency order Friday aimed at suspending collection of reconstruction fees for residents of Palisade, the Pacific, who are planning to recover homes destroyed in the January wildfire.
Of one of the three issued this week, an order issued to reduce rebuilding costs and speed up the timeline, “I direct the city department to refrain from collecting permits and planning costs related to the repair or rebuilding of the city council until the city council holds up adoption of amendments to waive these fees, as the city council holds up adoption of amendments to waive these fees.”
The order also requires city counsel to prepare and present an emergency ordinance to waive fees. City Councils must vote before officially exempt fees.
The mayor issued two enforcement measures Tuesday to promote reconstruction efforts at Pallisard. The first was to facilitate the processing of permissions. Self-certification programs are pilot programs aimed at allowing qualified architects to prove their plans and meet California housing codes.
The second was to use artificial intelligence to support urban staff reviews on project plans and ensure buildings and zoning codes were met.
So far, 27 permits have been issued with 19 addresses for reconstruction at Pallisard. City officials will grant more permits issued more quickly under these initiatives.
