The 59-year-old Los Angeles County deputy probation officer was arrested and charged with accusing him of smuggling controlled substances into a juvenile detention facility, officials announced this week.
In a news release, prosecutors with the LA County District Attorney’s Office said Michael Solis conspired with a minor who was detained at Barry J. Nord Juvenil Hall in Sylmer to sell alprazolam, a generic version of the benzodiazepine, known as Xanax, in 2023.
The 59-year-old was assigned to the Schirmer facility as a probation officer, and investigators said he smuggled highly addictive controlled substances into the building between May and August of that year.
The juvenile who was detained was reportedly going to sell pills afterwards, prosecutors said.

Benzodiazepines, drugs such as Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, and Ativan, are usually prescribed for seizures, insomnia, and anxiety disorders, as the drug affects, alleviates, and induces relief and sedation on the central nervous system.

This drug is generally prescribed for short-term use due to the potential for physical and mental dependence and addiction.
“Trading illegal drugs to juveniles is ruthless under any circumstances and not to mention government officials who use vulnerable youths who need guidance and support, “Probation officers have their primary duties with protection, health and safety of juveniles under care. My office does not tolerate such abuse of power that puts youth at risk, undermines rehabilitation and reduces community safety.”

If convicted of being charged, the 59-year-old faces up to three years in state prison.
