LA provides cash assistance to migrants affected by the attack

Mayor Karen Bass announced on Friday that he plans to provide direct cash assistance to those affected by the Trump administration’s fundamental immigration attacks.

This aid will be distributed using “hundreds” dollar cash cards. This should be available in about a week, Bass said at a press conference.

“You have people who don’t want to leave the house, people who don’t want to work and need cash,” she said.

Bass talked about the family she met who needed two incomes to buy rent. She said she is concerned that the family might face eviction after one of the earners was taken into custody in the immigrant raid.

I wasn’t immediately sure what qualifications I would need to receive my card.

The mayor emphasized that money comes from charity partners, not from city funding. The cards are distributed by immigration rights groups such as the Humanitarian Immigration Rights Coalition in Los Angeles.

According to the mayor’s office, the city coordinates between philanthropists and the organizations that distribute the cards.

The mayor compared the program to the “Angeleno Card” created by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2020 to provide financial support to those struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement was announced at a base press conference on an executive order signed on Friday on training to all city departments on how to “strengthen protocols” and stated that city employees and city property were “investigated, arrested, arrested, retained, transferred or detained, with the exception of serious enforcement, except for purposes of income.” The department must come up with a plan within two weeks.

Last month, the Trump administration sued cities over sanctuary policies, claiming it was discriminating against organizations like ICE.

The executive order will investigate and in some cases create working groups to update LAPD policies regarding response to immigration enforcement. Since 1979, LAPD has taken a strong stance on federal immigration law enforcement, prohibiting officers from entering into contact with anyone for the sole purpose of learning immigration status.

The executive order also includes the date and location of any attacks in the city since June 6th, as well as the directive to submit a Freedom of Information Act request for immigration and customs enforcement to take over records on the identity and reasons for detention of those detained.

The cash card is one of numerous announcements this week by the mayor in response to the crackdown on federal immigrants in Los Angeles, which entered its second month.

Earlier this week, Bus and city lawyers announced the city’s intentions to take part in a lawsuit seeking to end the Trump administration’s “illegal” attacks in the city.
