Officials from the LA County Sheriff’s Office reportedly deleted and apologised for a social media post calling Iranians “victims” of “recent bombings.”
It is unclear exactly what the original post to X, a previous Twitter account, was made before it was deleted, but authorities said they were closely monitoring the situation with local, state and federal partners and that there was no known threat to LA County.
The department also said that deputy patrols at places of worship and “other sensitive places throughout the county” would increase from the abundant attention.
“Our minds are directed at victims and families affected by the recent bombing in Iran,” the deleted tweet began.
The first two statements were omitted in the following posts that are currently out of X but remained on Facebook.
A commenter on LASD’s Facebook page commented that “Damage Control has stepped in quickly,” while another user commented, “I’ve changed the liberal song a bit!”, paying attention to the changes immediately.

Requesting comment from the KTLA, the Sheriff’s Department issued the following statement:
“We are publishing this statement to formally apologise for an offensive and inappropriate social media post recently posted on the department’s social media platform regarding ongoing conflicts in Iran. This post is unacceptable, misconducted and does not reflect the opinions of Sheriff Robert G. Luna or the department.
We fully recognize that the words and messages we share are heavy. As law enforcement experts, we are entrusted with a public responsibility position, and that trust requires us to communicate accurately. In this example, we did not meet that expectation and we are taking prompt corrective action. We are committed to learning from this mistake and preventing such incidents from happening again.
I updated my social media posts and started an internal review to determine how they were created and published. Measures are being taken to strengthen social media surveillance protocols and ensure future communications are consistent with the standards of professionalism, respect and accountability of our department. ”
