Rep. Lamonica Mciver (D-NJ) was hit by a federal complaint that allegedly obstructed a homeland security officer in a May 9 case outside the Newark immigration detention facility, where lawyers allegedly obstructed a homeland security officer in a move to call for political retrieval.
U.S. attorney Alina Haba announced the three count indictment and accused McQuiver of forcibly obstructing a federal officer when she arrested Newark Mayor Rasbaraka at the Delaney Hall immigration facility.
According to a press release from the DOJ, McIver and two other legislatures had conducted legislative visits in line with the immigration protests. After Baraka entered the safe area of the facility, federal agents warned him to leave.

When officers tried to arrest him, McQuiver blocked them, placing his arm around the mayor and “slammed his forearm” as he grabbed another officer.
Each of the first two counts is sentenced to a maximum of eight years. The third is carried up to the first year.

In a statement on X, Habba said: “People are free to speak their opinions… they should not do so in a way that puts law enforcement at risk.”
Paul Fishman, McIver’s lawyer, dismissed the case as politics in a statement given to Fox News.
“This prosecutor is political retaliation against dedicated civil servants… I fully expect the lawmakers to be exonerated.”

The preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled. Arrests are expected within two weeks.
