The only surviving child was rushed to surgery after a two-vehicle collision in Lancaster earlier this week killed his parents and sister in Lancaster, officials confirmed Saturday.
According to State Route 138 on 110th Avenue west, it occurred around 4:25pm on Wednesday, July 2nd, about 4:25pm, according to Antelope Valley’s California Highway Patrol.
A preliminary investigation by the CHP reveals that the Chevrolet Colorado, carrying a family of four, is accelerating from the stop sign at 110th Street West when it traveled directly on the eastbound Dodge RAM 3500 route on State Route 138.
Officers and other first responders arrived quickly and declared their parents and 12-year-old daughter dead at the scene. They were identified by Los Angeles County medical inspectors as 38-year-old Vanessa Gonzalez Gabriel, 49-year-old Abdias Gabriel Fernandez, and 12-year-old Ruby Gabriel.
The surviving family members were not released immediately, but CHP said the child was a boy and they were taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center where they were rushed to surgery.
Regarding other vehicles involved, CHP said the Dodge Ram driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Antelope Valley Medical Center. “SR-138 will be closed in both directions from 110th Avenue West to 90th Avenue West, and will take approximately 4.5 hours to investigate on the scene,” the CHP release elaborated.
Video surveillance obtained by law enforcement from an electric vehicle driving during the collision confirmed a series of events revealed in the preliminary investigation. The CHP said that in this case no criminal charges would be filed.
“All employees of the California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley Area area office express our deepest sadness to the family and friends of our community members during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement concluded.
