Landland Outdoor Screening is coming to LA with a live orchestra

From the first few moments on the bumper-to-bumper overpass, Lalaland has become a classic of at least three different film subgenres: musical, car culture and Los Angeles. Is there a better way to revisit the six Oscar winners than celebrating each with a big, scenic outdoor screening featuring a live 53-piece orchestra and a jazz band? (Now, you can’t see from your car, but the people in the film are quickly leaving theirs and crushing Mandy Moore’s choreo so you can.)

Recommended: All LA outdoor movies are on one calendar

This September, Cinefeil will be wearing the best Technicolors and heading to Los Angeles State Historical Park. There, Damien Chazelle’s 2016 masterpiece will be screened for two nights (Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st). Composer Justin Hurwitz will be holding an Oscar score. This will hold gorgeous scores alongside Pasek and Paul’s melancholy lyrics, including the nominated Weepy “Audition” and the big winner of the year, “City of Stars.”

From the cinema shaking of the film, to ecstasy jazz to low-key dramas, you find yourself at a park home that is pinned to the incredible performances of Ryan Gosling and Oscar winner Emma Stone.

Minimy-Sym will be exhibiting some of Mary Sofres’ Academy Award-nominated original costumes and will be set with Oscar-winning production-designed works for the film. The door opens at 4:30pm, three hours before screening time, offering many options to check out theme photos, cocktails and some food trucks.

Seat options range from a GA Picnic-style grass spot (starting at $48) to a reserved seat ($158) that passes through the ground seat closest to the orchestra. If you’re still angry that the film lost to the moonlight during the infamous envelope gate of the Oscar Ceremony, you can pay $427 for the Premium Box for two people with VIP amenities, delicatessy and lounge chairs.

This is the third year Street Food Cinema brings immersive concert screenings to Los Angeles, taking advantage of the city’s illustrious skyline to elevate the beloved local art form to which it belongs.

Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land opened in 2016, earning over $472 million worldwide and 14 Academy Award nominations, making it an instant hit. He won six for director, actress, cinematography, original score, original song and production design.
