Authorities arrested the man Thursday. They say it has something to do with the murder of the volleyball village that lives inside their apartment home.
The fatal incident occurred on April 26th in the 12,600 block of Riverside Drive. A patrol officer who had a welfare check on the resident found an unresponsive man inside his apartment.
The man in custody was identified as Erick Escamilla and LAPD was confirmed by NBC4. Details regarding Escamilla’s arrest were not available immediately.
Police said the suspect had entered the victim’s apartment illegally, prompting a physical dispute that led to the death of the victim.
The deceased was identified as 53-year-old Menache Hydra by the Los Angeles County Medical Examination Office.
The neighbor told NBC4 he was afraid to find out that someone had been killed inside their apartment.
“I’m not safe, and that was one of these circumstances that occurred before this murder,” said a resident who didn’t want to be identified. “I’m not the only one who filed a complaint, I have a lot of other tenants too. People who live on the fifth floor complain about the footprints on the roof after opening hours.”
Some people who live at Ashton Sherman Village Apartments said they complained to management about the lack of security. Jonathan Gonzalez reports on NBC4 News on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 4pm.
Anyone with information about the incident was urged to contact the Operation Valley Bureau at 818-374-9550. Calls during non-business hours must be sent to 877-527-3247.
